Getting Started

BirdieIQ is your personal golf caddie. You can start without GHIN, a launch monitor, or a separate tracking device.

Updated October 8, 2026

Get ready

  1. Open Setup → Bag & Distances. Choose the clubs you carry and enter carry and total yards. You need at least one selected club other than Putter with both distances to start a round. Estimates are fine to begin; tap Confirm & Save Bag and improve them later.
  2. Have a launch-monitor CSV? Open Bag & Distances → Import shot data → Select Launch Monitor CSV. BirdieIQ recognizes supported CSV column layouts, not every export from a given brand. Check the shot count, skipped rows, and Show import details for units, warnings, and left/right spread. If distance units are missing, the app assumes yards; do not import a meter-based file until its columns say meters. If the file does not give the range elevation, enter where the shots were measured in feet; BirdieIQ adjusts for course-day conditions later. With a truly empty Bag—including from first-time Welcome—Add imported clubs to my Bag starts checked so those clubs can be used to play; you can turn it off. With a Bag that already has club data, it starts unchecked and your club selection stays unchanged unless you turn it on. Tap Import shots, then Save Bag. Import changes the displayed Bag first; only Save Bag keeps it after you leave. An R50 export has not been independently checked.
  3. On Home, tap the course's Change button if needed. Choose an installed course, then tap Start Round and select its tees. Check the hole shown before you mark a shot.

Play a round

  1. Choose Phone GPS, Apple Watch GPS, or Manual shot marking. Apple Watch marking requires a paired, reachable Watch.
  2. At the ball, mark the shot with the method you selected. Check that the mark appears on the iPhone. If a device stops working, switch to Phone GPS or Manual and keep playing.
  3. Open Hole View → Plan. Choose a club and move the aim point to compare estimated landing areas and chances of par or better where the course data supports them. This is a plan, not a promise of where the ball will land.
  4. After the hole, tap Finish hole. Check your shots, enter the actual score and putts, then tap Save & Next.
  5. When you are done, open the live Scorecard → End & Save Round. Find completed rounds under Setup → Rounds & Results → Saved rounds.

If something does not look right

  • No GPS: Move into open sky and check your phone's location permission. You can switch to Manual marking; a manual position is not a measured GPS location.
  • A mark is missing: Check the iPhone before leaving the ball. If Watch marking is unavailable, switch to Phone GPS or Manual; do not mark the same shot twice.
  • Wrong club or where a shot ended: Open the hole scorecard and correct that shot before Save & Next.
  • Import looks wrong: Do not tap Import shots. Check units and club names under Show import details. If you came from first-time Welcome and already imported but have not saved, choose Discard changes when leaving. In other paths, do not tap Save Bag if the displayed distances are wrong; contact support if you are unsure how to return to your saved Bag.
  • Round will not save: Keep BirdieIQ installed and do not clear app data. If a recovery card offers Email Preserved Round or Export Preserved Round, use it. Otherwise open Setup → Help & Privacy → Email Support Log and contact support. A support log is diagnostics, not a copy of your round.

For help, contact support@birdieiq.us. The support log contains diagnostics; it is not a count of errors.
