Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 15, 2026

BirdieIQ is a personal golf scoring-caddie application operated by BirdieIQ LLC, an Arizona limited liability company. This policy explains what information the app handles, why it is used, and the choices available to you.

Information Stored on Your Device

BirdieIQ stores the following information locally on your device so it can provide recommendations and round history:

  • golf profile, handicap information, bag setup, base club distances, and selected ball;
  • rounds, scores, shot outcomes, misses, penalties, putting, and recommendation history;
  • optional range-session and scorecard imports;
  • optional GPS shot markers, saved ball positions, and elevation estimates;
  • optional Bluetooth device label or identifier for an external shot marker;
  • app preferences, active-round recovery data, and diagnostics preference.

You can clear or export locally stored information from the app. Deleting the app also removes its locally stored information, subject to your device and backup settings.

Location

BirdieIQ requests foreground location permission only when location-supported features are used. Location may be used to estimate the ball position, distance, elevation, or course map position. The app does not request continuous background location tracking.

When an elevation lookup is requested, the relevant coordinate is sent to Open-Meteo's elevation service. Weather requests use the course location rather than your identity.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth scanning occurs only after you start a scan. A selected device identifier may be stored locally so the app can recognize that device later. BirdieIQ does not use Bluetooth for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Weather and Course Services

BirdieIQ may request course-area weather observations from the United States National Weather Service and weather or elevation information from Open-Meteo. Those services receive the request and course or requested coordinates under their own privacy policies.

Optional Crash Diagnostics

If crash diagnostics are configured for the installed build and Diagnostics is enabled in the app, BirdieIQ may send technical crash information to Sentry. Diagnostics are configured to exclude your name, round history, precise location, request contents, session replay, and performance tracing. Technical information may include app version, update identifier, device/operating-system type, stack trace, and the area of the app where an error occurred.

You can disable Diagnostics at any time in Setup under Data & Privacy.

Coach & Program Data Sharing

BirdieIQ offers an optional feature that allows players to share completed competition round data with their coach and program. This feature is governed by the following principles:

  • Opt-in only. A player must actively join a team using a roster code provided by their coach. Joining constitutes explicit, informed consent to share round data with that coach and the player's institution.
  • Completed rounds only. Coaches and program administrators see data only after a round has been fully uploaded. There is no live tracking, no in-round visibility, and no location sharing.
  • Tournament-mode rounds only. Only rounds played during a signed BirdieIQ competition event are eligible for upload. Practice rounds are never shared without a signed event token.
  • Revocable consent. A player may leave a team at any time. Leaving deactivates future data sharing. Rounds already uploaded remain accessible to the coach but no new rounds are stored.
  • No leaderboards. Data is used exclusively for individual performance analysis — not for public rankings or competitive purposes.

Who can see player data

  • Coach — sees round data only for players on their own team.
  • Program administrator (the institution's athletic director, head coach, or designated org admin) — sees round data for all teams within their own institution.
  • BirdieIQ (platform operator) — may access data to operate the Service, provide support, and maintain system integrity.

Data we receive from the app

When a player completes a tournament round and uploads it, BirdieIQ receives the following from the iPhone app: competition round data (shot-by-shot club selections, distances, decision and execution metrics, score, fairways hit, greens in regulation, putts, and penalties), the player's email address, and team membership information. This data is transmitted only after the round is complete and only during a signed competition event.

Sharing and Exports

BirdieIQ does not automatically post scores to GHIN. A round backup, coach report, scorecard, flagged recommendation, or other export leaves the app only when you choose to share or export it using your device.

Sale, Advertising, and Tracking

BirdieIQ does not sell personal information. BirdieIQ does not use third-party advertising SDKs and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Data Retention and Deletion

Local information remains on your device until you clear it or delete the app. Optional crash diagnostics are retained according to the configured Sentry project settings. To request help with deletion or a privacy question, contact the address below.

Children & Minors

BirdieIQ is not directed to children under 13. BirdieIQ is used by high school and junior golf programs that may include players under 18. For any player under 18:

  • Institutional consent. The institution and coach are responsible for obtaining verifiable parental or guardian consent before adding a minor to a team roster. BirdieIQ relies on the institution to manage this consent and does not collect age information directly from players.
  • Data minimization. Only golf performance data (shots, clubs, distances, decision metrics, scores) is collected — no academic, health, or demographic data.
  • Never sold. Player data is never sold to any third party.
  • No advertising. BirdieIQ does not use third-party advertising SDKs and does not show ads to players.
  • School service provider. When a school uses BirdieIQ, the school controls the student data. BirdieIQ acts as a service provider to the institution, processing student data solely to provide the Service.

Institutions using BirdieIQ with minors should attest to having obtained appropriate parental or guardian consent at the time of roster setup.

Changes

This policy may be updated as BirdieIQ adds services or changes how information is handled. The effective date above will be updated when the policy changes.
